President of the Guinea-Bissau Basketball Federation, Claudomiro Almeida, is in Maputo, Mozambique, for the FIBA-Africa General Assembly.
On the 9th and 10th of June, the city of Maputo hosts the XVIIIth General Assembly of FIBA-Africa, the highest governing body for African basketball.
In the event equivalent to the institution's Congress, the future of the continental ball-to-basket will be defined, as, in addition to the re-election of the Mozambican, Aníbal Manava, to the position of president, several topics are listed to be discussed in Maputo, highlighting the development of women's and youth basketball.
The elective General Assembly of FIBA Africa is of great importance for the future of the organization, taking into account that several positions, including that of president of FIBA Africa, presidents of the seven subzones of FIBA Africa, treasurer and competition committees, will be available and will be elected in the Mozambican capital, according to Alphonse Bilé, General Secretary of the organization.
In addition to the election of the positions mentioned above, the Maputo meeting will debate the future of African basketball, with emphasis on the participation of women in the sport, as well as the development of youth basketball.
The Maputo Congress will also address the issue relating to the participation of players born outside the African continent in each country's national teams, among other topics that aim to raise the competitive level of ball-to-the-basket to a continental level.
