Basketball enthusiasts in Guinea-Bissau, get ready for an electrifying season as the 2024 Guinea-Bissau playoffs begin. The competition features the best teams in the men's senior league, battling for the prestigious title in an exciting playoff format. The playoff bracket has been defined with four powerful teams ready to face each other on the pitch.
Number one seed Hosson LTD will face fourth-placed Ajuda Basket in a clash that promises a lot of intensity and skillful play. Hosson LTD, known for its disciplined defense and accurate shooting, will look to take advantage of its improved ranking to advance to the finals. On the other side of the bracket, second-placed Cubamito will face third-placed Niki Basket.
Cubanito, with a robust squad and dynamic gameplay, is the favorite to challenge for the title, but first they need to overcome Niki Basket, a team that has consistently demonstrated courage and determination throughout the season. The playoffs are structured as a “best of three” series, ensuring that each team has ample opportunity to showcase their prowess and strategies. It should also be noted that Guinea-Bissau will also have a cup tournament between all senior and junior men's teams. For seniors, IP9 will play AD Basket on May 17th, the date the tournament starts. Hosson LTD faces Cubanitos and Ajuda Basket faces De Mattias Sports. More information will be presented throughout the month.
Lastly, the Guinea-Bissau Basketball Federation and the Artest Foundation in the United States have expressed interest in playing in the Road to BAL qualifying games in the fall of 2024 and 2025. The winner of the national championship will advance to the international Road to BAL competition . This will provide professional opportunities for senior players and young talented Guinean players, both in Guinea-Bissau and in the Diaspora. Details on how to help the program in this way will also be announced over the summer.
